I contacted AGI via FB Messenger shortly after placing the order to check on the current lead time. (Later on there were a tariff bill for $50.25 from fedex) Shipping from Australia was $550 via TNT (FedEx). Simply add to cart and check out using Paypal. The website contains two photos, initially I liked the design and the price isn't terrible so I pulled the trigger. Many on Spyderchat and MR2 Spyder fb group recommended the AGI but I couldn't find very many photos out there. Most Spyder owners would go with the Hardog roll bar and although it is a good cage I personally believe it is compromised due to the fact that it is designed to work with the OEM soft top (the backstays come down at a steep angle to accommodate the soft top). If the track does not have a long straight, then whatever keeps you around the power peak when you are accelerating.Shortly after purchasing my spyder I began researching roll bars since I will be tracking my car occasionally HPDE, no plans for competition. On a given racetrack, the fastest gearing will probably be the one that puts you just below the power peak as you exit the corner into the longest straight. A higher drive ratio will give the car a faster launch if that is what you are interested in, but it will be slower from 50 to 70 because you will run out of 2nd gear sooner. It just reduces the speeds where you shift. That said, most of the tires that you find for 17" wheels will actually be oversize for this car.Ī higher drive ratio does not give the car more power. For example, a 205/50-15 tire is about the same diameter as a 205/40-17 tire. Tires come in different aspect ratios, which give different overall diameters. The drive ratio is determined by the overall diameter of the tire, not the diameter of the wheel. Whichever car I track won't be my only Spyder (see sig for my lamentable buying habits), so I don't need an all around compromise biased for street use, just something I can run on the street every now and then (so probably no R-comps, hence my fixation on the RS-3, Rival S, etc.).Ĭlick to expand. You want to get wheels that have a good selection of tires of the size and type that you want. I've run a few non-sanctioned autocrosses in other cars over the years but do not plan to autox seriously anytime soon, nor do I have the time or budget for an actual racing effort. Any opinions and advice are very welcome.
